I’ve been seeing Daniel Plastino for about 3 years now and he has been instrumental in helping me through my mental health challenges. FAQs

  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs) and Psychiatrists both assess, diagnose, and treat individuals with mental health conditions, but their roles can differ in education, training, and scope of practice, depending on the state.

In some states, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners must work with a collaborating Psychiatrist. In these states, Psychiatrists, who are medical doctors (MDs or DOs), often have a broader scope of practice, allowing them to independently prescribe medication, conduct more intensive procedures such as electroconvulsive shock therapy (ECT), and manage psychiatric conditions with serious medical implications.

In contrast, in Colorado, PMHNP’s have full practice authority, which means they can practice independently. PMHNPs are advanced practice nurses with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). They often take a holistic approach to mental health care, whereas Psychiatrists may take a more biological approach, primarily emphasizing medications to manage symptoms. That being said, in Colorado, both professionals provide very similar services like psychiatric medication management, psychotherapy, developing and monitoring mental health treatment plans, and providing patient education. Both work in various settings, including hospitals, private practices, and mental health clinics.

  • If you’re struggling with mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, or PTSD, medication may be a helpful tool. We conduct a comprehensive evaluation to determine the best treatment approach based on your symptoms and goals.

  • We specialize in treating depression, treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, bipolar disorder, and ADHD. Our approach integrates psychiatry and behavioral health modifications to support your long-term well-being.

  • Yes! We currently accept Aetna, Anthem/BCBS, Cigna/Allied/Evernorth, and Optum/United Healthcare, and Colorado Medicaid. We aim to make mental health treatments as flexible and accessible as possible through insurance as well as self-pay options.

  • No, we do not provide inpatient treatment, but we offer outpatient psychiatric services, including medication management, as well as care coordination with independent therapists. Our goal is to provide you with mental health support in a way that fits your lifestyle. We also have an extensive list of higher level care facilities that we can refer you to if needed.

Located centrally in Arvada, we serve all surrounding areas including Golden, Boulder, Superior, Louisville, Thornton, Westminster, Denver, Aurora, Lakewood, Wheat Ridge, Littleton, Highlands Ranch, and throughout the wider state of Colorado (via telehealth).
